Abstract:
The decomposition of C
2F
4 in the presence of H
2 has been studied in asingle pulse shock tube.As the extend of the reaction C
2F
4+Ar→2CF
2+Ar is assigned to the measured concentration of the final stable product CH
4 led by the consequence of CF
2 insertion into H
2,the decomposition rate at temperature range 1000 to 1080K is consistent with the rate constant given by Modica and LaGraff. The direct measurements of the residuary concentration of C
2F
4 show that in addition to the direct pyrolysis there are 10 times more consumption of C
2F
4 caused by a polymerization chain initiated by the released H atom in the system as a consequence of the reaction of CF
2 with H
2.
