    Investigation on the C(3P)+NO(X2∏) Reaction Mechanism and the Vibrational Distributions of its Product CN(X2+

    • The C(3P) atoms have been prepared from the dissociation of CO molecules by Ar(3P2,0)atoms which have been generated by microwave discharge in a radical reaction apparatus. The CN(B2+X2+) laser induced fluorescence spectra have been observed from the reaction C(3P)+NO(X2∏) at room temperature. The relative vibrational distributions of the product of the tittle reaction have been obtained: N0:N1:N2:N3=1:0.59:0.31:0.20.According to this result coupled with information theory analysis and the theoretical study on this reaction performed by others, we came to the conclusion that the reaction is an indirect one via a long-lived complex CNO. In this paper, we also discussed in detail the reaction mechanism and presented a quite satisfactory explanation to the contradictory results concerning about the tittle reaction.
