A Study of Ion Kinetic Energy Spectrometry of ortho-, meta-, para-Methyl Phenol Doubly Charged Ions in Gas Phase

Abstract
The unimolecular charge separation reactions of the doubly charged ions [C7H8O]2+、[C7H7O]2+ produced in the ion source by electron impact form o-, m-- and p-- methyl phenols have been studied using mass--analyzed ion kinetic energy spectrometry (MIKES) technique. The valuse or kinetic energy releases (T) can be calculated from the energy dispersion of product ions and (T) essentially reflects the Coulombic energy, which is released immediately before the decomposition of the ions. From these data some structural inforamtion about the transition states can be obtained.
