The Calculation of Diffusion Coefficients of Molecules in Electrolytic Solutions by Scaled Particle Theory

    • In this paper, the scaled particle theory of kinetic medium effects has been applied to the diffusion in electrolytic solutions. In combination with the diffusion mechanism of molecules, an equation for calculating diffusion coefficients was derived. Calculations of diffusion, tracer diffusion or self diffusion coefficients of methane, carbon dioxide, acetone, HTO and H2O in electrolytic solutions have been shown that the ratio of the jumping average distance of molecules in pure water and in electrolytic solutions was related to the hydration numbers of electrolyte and its concentration. According to this relationship, the predicted result of diffusion coefficients is good.
