EXAFS Studies of Cu-Ni Catalyst Structure

The coordination environment of Cu and Ni in Cu-Ni/SiO₂ catalyst for hydrogenation of vegetable oils have been measured by means of EXAFS. Both comparison of RSF of them with those in model compounds and data fitting indicate that Cu can be reduced to metal state easily and form small bimetallic cluster with Ni, however, NiO is present mainly in oxide state under the reduction condition at temperature around 230℃.
