    Study of Dynamics of the Reactions Ba(1S)+CH4-nCln and Ba(1S)+C2H6-nCln

    • The vibrational distributions of the BaCl produced in the reactions Ba (1S) + CH4-n Cln→BaCl+CH4-nCln-1 and Ba (1S)+C2H6-n Cln→BaCl+C2H6-nCln-1 were studied by the method of laser induced fluorescence using in a beamgas arrangement. It is found that the reaction mechanism of these reactions relates to the number of n and the stucture of the reagent molecule, and shows some regularities with these two factors. The reaction Ba(1S)+C2H3Cl3 (1, 1, 2) is thought to proceed via two different mechanisms simultaneously:(1) Ba atom attacks directly the Cl2CH end of the Cl2CHCH2Cl molecule leading to the formation or BaCl with high vibrational energy; (2) Ba atom attacks directly the ClCH2 end of the Cl2CHCH2Cl molecule leading to the formation of BaCl with low vibrational energy. The branching ratio of this reaction was found to be 11.5:1.
