Chemical Instability and Periodic Precipitation of Calcium Oxalate in Gelatin Gel
-
Abstract
Periodic precipitation patterns of calcium oxalate in two-dimensional gel media have been investigated. The time law and the spacing law are verified. The dependences of the velocity constant ( k=X_n / t^\frac12 ) and spacing coefficient ( P=X_a+1 / X_a ) on the concentration of inner and outer electrolytes, gel medium, and its pH have been studied in detail. The experimental conditions for the formation of Liesegang rings are also discussed. An attempt has been made to explain the crystalliztion of urinary stone of calcium oxalate.
