The Structure of a New Type Infra-red Optical Fibre Material MnF2-BaCl2 System Glass

Abstract
By means of visible—ultraviolet absorption spectrum and EXAFS, the structure of a new type infrared optical fibre material (60-x)MnF2·40BaCl2·xMnCl2(x=0,10,20,30) glasscs was characterized. The visiblc—UV absorption spectra show that Mn2+ in MnF2-BaCl2 glass has a structure of mixed halide octahedra MnF6-yCly. The near neighboring coordination around Mn2+ was studied by EXAFS. Based on the results and a having been suggested structural model for MnF2-BaF2 glass, the structural characters of MnF2-BaCl2 glass were presented.
