Studies on the Mechanism of F-T Synthesis on Supported Iron Catalysts

Abstract
In this paper, the kinetic behavior of tne initial stage of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis has been studied by means of transient response technique with quardrupole mass spectrometer. The activity and selectivity of Fe/γ-Al2O3, Fe-Co/γ-Al2O3 and Fe-Co-K2O/γ-Al2O3 catalysts for CO hydrogenation and the mechanism of C-C bond formation on Fe-Co-K2O/γ-Al2O3 catalyst are examined in detail. It is found that surface carbon produced by CO dissociation is the active centre in the hydrocarbon synthesis, surface carbon subsequently undergoes hydrogenation to form methylene groups which are assumed to polymerize to form C-C chain.
