Dynamics of CS(A1Π) Formation in the Energy Transfer Reaction Ar(3P0.2)+CS2(\tilde X^11Σg+)

Abstract
The CS(A1Π→X1Σ+) fluorescence spectra resulting from the energy transfcr reaction Ar(3P0.2)+CS2 under the single collision condition have been obtained. The relative vibrational populations of the nascant product CS(A1Π,v’)have benn determined by means of curve fitting: N0:N1:N2:N3:N4:N5:N6=1:1.35:1.57:1.17:0.78:0.61:0.49. A population inversion is found at v’=2. The population data are approximately represented by a distribution predicted from Impulsive Half-Collision Model. The dynamics of CS(A1Π) formation has been discussed in detail. It is pointed out that the vibrational populations of CS(A1Π) produced from collision-induced dissociative excitation of CS2 do not fit with the results from golden rule calculations.
