Brillouin and Raman Scattering from Water and It's Binary Solutions

    • Binary solutions (water mixed with ethanol, acetone and acetic acid, respectively) were studied by Brillouin and Raman Scattering. The curve of sound velocity vs. mixture ratio of the binary solutions did not monotonously reduce, rather a maximumm were observed. The corresponding mixture ratio depended on the temperature. We explained these unusual phenomena by means of the "percolation model" of liquid water, and further confirmation of this model was made by decomposing the Ramma peaks of the binary solutions and analysing the relation between intensities of the component Ramma peaks and mixture ratio.
