The Product Formation Rate Constants by Helium Flowing-Afterglow Reaction of Methyl Halides

Abstract
In this paper, we used the flowing-afterglow technique to study the energy transfer processes of metastable He with several methyl halides. Taking the reaction He(23s)+CO as a reference reaction, we measured the absolute rate constant for the formation of electronically excited products from the reaction of He(23s) with CHCl3,CH2Cl2,CH2Br2 and CH3I. Finally, we discussed the formation mechanism of the excited fragments.
