Formation of PO(A2Σ, B2Σ) in the Reactions of the Helium and Neon Afterglows with POCl3

Abstract
Energy transfer reaction of He(23s) or Ne(3ρ0,2) with POCl3 has been studied by observing PO(A-X) and PO(B-X) emission in the flowing afterglow apparatus. The effects of SF6 addition to the He and Ne afterglows on the intensity of emission indicated that the formation of PO(A, B) in the flowing afterglow proceeds through the primary reaction of He(23s) or Ne(3ρ0,2) with POCl3. The formation rate constants of PO(A) and PO(B) from the He(23s)/POCl3 reaction were determined to be 3.68×10-11 and 9.40×10-11cm3 molecule-1s-1, respectively. The nascent vibrational distribution of PO(A) and PO(B) from Ne(3ρ0,2)/POCl3 have been estimated.
